Cold Weather Shelter Volunteer Opportunities

The Cold Weather Shelter will be opening on November 15th this season! In order to help make the season successful we are looking for lots of volunteer help from the community. From November 15th until April 15th we need volunteers to help at the Shelter with Intake and Overnight shifts.  We would like all volunteers to participate in one orientation session so that we can show you the forms that need to be filled in each night, where people are to leave their belongings overnight, where people sleep, and a general going-over of the guidelines and principles.

Volunteer Orientation dates:
November 1st – 6:00pm – 8:30pm
November 4th –  3:00pm – 5:30pm
November 8th –  6:00pm – 8:30pm
November 11th –  3:00pm – 5:30pm

If you can attend one of the above training dates, please call to sign up!

We hope for a commitment from our volunteers to come in once a week, once a month, or once in a while – many hands make light work!  There will be a staff person on duty with the volunteers during the Intake shifts between 6:30 and 10:30 pm. Overnight volunteers will either work with a staff member or have access to a staff member at any time during the night….

Below are the shifts that need to be covered:

6:30 pm to 10:30 pm

11 pm to 7 am

Additionally we are looking for a few volunteers who can come in on Sunday mornings (when the library is closed) between 7 and 10:30 am, or from 1 to 6:30 pm to keep the resource center open as a day shelter for those with no other place to go.

If you would like to be a part of our team, please call Mindy or Jeff at  352-5197!
