One day Hundred Nights (HN) got a phone call from a local Cheshire County Town’s Welfare Dept. There was a woman in her early 20’s, a resident of that town, who found herself suddenly homeless to due extenuating family circumstances. HN happened to have a bed available on that particular day so we told the Welfare Officer to please drive her in and we would conduct an Intake that afternoon.
As soon as Annie arrived, probably even before she arrived, Annie was determined to stay at Hundred Nights only as long as was absolutely necessary. She had already applied to many different jobs and wasn’t being picky about any job that was offered to her. Within days she was able to get into a great 3rd shift manufacturing job with good pay and benefits. She also took on a second part time job on the weekends as a clerk.
Within five months, Annie was able to save enough money to purchase a car outright, a car that was less than 10 years old and came with a limited warranty! Once she had the car, Annie became so much more independent. She started looking for apartments, shared houses, rooms – anything to meet her goal of leaving the Shelter as an “Independent Woman”. Annie succeeded and moved out exactly seven months to the day of moving in. We wish her the very best, and hope others will be encouraged to find a similar path when hearing her story.
